Adult Programs, Bible Studies, and Prayer Groups

Sunday morning Bible Study
Saint Andrew’s Sunday morning Bible Study meets at 9:50 AM in the Parlor, on the 1st floor of the Old Rectory. Everyone is welcome. In the Fall of 2019 we are beginning an excursion into the "apocryphal" books of First and Second Maccabees.
Sunday Morning “Coffee and Conversation"
Many Sunday mornings in the hour between the two services we have a Coffee Circle for sometimes casual, sometimes more formal programs led by the Rector or Special Guests. We meet at 10 a.m. in Barley Hall, downstairs in the Parish House.
A Prayer of Quiet: Wednesday Evening Centering Prayer
During the 1970s a group of Trappist monks at St Joseph's Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts developed a contemplative practice called Centering Prayer. This simple method of silent prayer is based upon The Cloud of Unknowing, a 14th century devotional classic. If you are interested experiencing this prayer of quiet with others, please join us on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM in the Parlor, downstairs in the Old Rectory. Contact Bill Ghrist at ghristwd@verizon.net -- or 412.441-2818.
Presentations, Lectures, and Study Groups
During the year opportunities for exploration of Christian faith and life are offered on a variable schedule. Each summer we select a Summer Book to read together and then offer two midweek opportunities for "Cottage Meeting" Books Discussion evenings at church or in the homes of parishioners. Each Fall we host the Saint Andrew's Lecture, a Friday evening event bringing speakers of regional or national interest to our Highland Park neighborhood. Each Winter and Spring, in anticipation of our bishop's annual visitation, we offer midweek "Inquirer Classes" for those wishing to learn more about Christian faith, about our Anglican heritage, about the Episcopal Church, and about Saint Andrew's.
