Music at Saint Andrew's

The story goes that a number of decades ago at Saint Andrew's, in order to balance the parish's budget, it was suggested that the music department might downsize a little. The parish responded by increasing support and funds for music at Saint Andrew's. It was that important then, and it is that important now. Because of the generosity of donors, Saint Andrew's is a place where music and musicians and audiences flourish and enrich one another.

Led by Organist and Choirmaster Peter J. Luley, Saint Andrew’s Choir makes music every Sunday and at special mid-week services such as Evensong. Evensong at Saint Andrew’s has become a popular musical venue for the larger audience of Pittsburgh music-lovers because it showcases a wide range of sacred music and exceptional musicians from around Pittsburgh. The annual All Saints Music Festival features guests soloists and conductors as well as the professional small orchestra, The Pittsburgh Festival Orchestra.

The Friends of Music at Saint Andrew’s has also hosted special performances, such as resident composer Ayo Oluranti’s new work Ten Thousand Times Ten Thousand and visits from, among others,  the Men and Boys’ Choir of Hereford Cathedral in England and the Choirs of Christ College and Selwyn College, Cambridge University. The Friends of Music have also sponsored musical fund-raisers--and especially the much-loved English Pub Night and Cabaret.
